LibriVox recording of Radioactive Substances, by Marie Curie. Read by Availle. Marie Curie, born in Warsaw in 1867, was a French physicist and chemist famous for her work on radioactivity. She was a pioneer in the field of radioactivity and the first person honored with two Nobel Prizes - in physics (1903) and chemistry (1911). The risks of working with strongly radioactive materials were not known at that time, and she eventually died in 1934 from an illness likely caused by radiation...

These snowflakes were found somewhere in Internet for cutting from paper. I have prepare it for 3d printing in STL. Feel free to scale it in your slicer software, by default it is ~100mm size and 2.4-2.6mm height for 0.2 layer height printing. I have made Einstein one to test this design, but Curie and Schrodinger is new version I didn't test yet) Happy New Year!!!

In the context of information warfare, rumour detection has become a central issue. From classical media-related campaign, to propaganda and indoctrination that lie at the core of terrorism, rumour is a mean widely used and thus a threat that must be identified as soon as possible, and in the best-case scenario, anticipated and curbed. The emergence of a new informational environment due to the adoption of the Internet as a massive information diffusion medium has led to a situation suitable to...

Compressed Sensing seeks to capture a discrete signal x included in R(N_ with a small number n of linear measurements. The information captured about x from such measurements is given by the vector y = Phi-x included in R(n) where Phi is an n x N matrix. The best matrices, from the viewpoint of capturing sparse or compressible signals are generated by random processes, e.g. their entries are given by i.i.d. Bernoulli or Gaussian random variables. The information y holds about x is extracted by...

Diana Preston talked about her book, "Before The Fallout: From Marie Curie to Hiroshima," published by Walker and Company. On December 26, 1898, Marie Curie announced the discovery of radium and observed that "radioactivity seems to be an atomic property." A mere 47 years later, "Little Boy" exploded over Hiroshima. She told the story of the intervening half century, during which a quest to unravel the secrets of the material world revealed how to destroy it, and...

This paper reviews some operators that are used in the numerical analysis of spectral and spectral element methods. We motivate the introduction of these different operators and sketch their approximation properties. Finally we apply them to derive optimal error estimates for spectral type approximations of the solution of elliptic partial differential equations.

The evaluated Gd(3+) -Yb(3+) exchange interactions over the nearest and the next-nearest neighbors in LiYb(x)Y(1-x)F4 are found to increase in parabolic manner with x, the concentration of Yb(3+) ions. The Gd(3+) -Yb(3+) exchange interactions are sensitive to x in the range x = 0.6 - 1.0, while they are almost constant in the range x = 0.1 - 0.5. The estimated Gd(3+) -Yb(3+) exchange interaction constants, (J = J(sub nn) + J(sub nnn)), are in the range 0.5 - 2.8 GHz for x from 0.1 to 1,...
